The Race Organiser has been in touch with runABC South to let us know that there are plenty of opportunities left to set that PB or simply enjoy a great race in a superb parkland setting before 2017 ends with the traditional Santa Dash.
There can be no more iconic location for a 10k blast than Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, scene of so many sublime performances at London 2012. The traffic-free course on broad pathways past several Olympic venues and the waterways is one challenge that every runner should relish. The winter series is on Saturday 4 November and monthly until March 2018.
If Sunday morning is more your time to run then the Regent's Park 10K series is on 5 November and is also held every month until March. The Race Organiser works with local club Mornington Chasers to provide a flat, fast course entirely within the park. Chip timing, medals for all finishers and prizes for individual races and the overall Grand Prix are available.
Are you indecisive? Cannot make your mind up regarding which of London's Royal Parks to grace this winter? No problem – the Royal Parks Winter Series combines three of the best venues starting at Greenwich Park on Sunday 5 November; moving to Regent's Park on Sunday 10 December and concluding at Hyde Park on Sunday 14 January. There is a special series entry fee of £45 online.
Perhaps 10k is not quite enough of a challenge and you are looking to test yourself over 13.1 miles in preparation for a spring marathon? If that's the case the Grand Union Canal Half Marathon at Uxbridge on Sunday 12 November could be the answer. This unique event is held on a scenic, point-to-point course from Cowley Recreation Ground along the Grand Union Canal towpath to Cassiobury Park, Watford. Race entry fee of just £23/£25 includes bus transport from the finish to the start and baggage transport from the start to the finish. The rest is down to you as you take in the views on this brilliant, multi-terrain route.
Finally, no winter series would be complete without the traditional Santa Dash and one of the most popular runs takes place at Valentine's Park, Ilford on Saturday 16 December. Simply don the provided Santa suit (or bring your own) and fly round the course (without reindeer assistance) before indulging in mince pies and looking forward to your best race photo of the year. Entries cost just £16 – go on, you know you want to!
