Glorious weather greeted the second edition of the Skechers Performance Milton Keynes Marathon on Bank Holiday Monday with over 2,000 crossing the finish line at Stadium MK, home of MK Dons Football Club. Mayor of Milton Keynes Councillor Catriona Morris got the runners on their way at 10 am after 30 seconds silence in memory of the tragic events at the recent Boston marathon.
In the main event, the first man home and winner of Milton Keynes marathon 2013 was Edward Catmur (Thames Valley Hare & Hounds) in a time of 2:46:59 followed by Cambridge Harriers duo Stephen Hodges in 2:47:13 and James Gordon in 2:47:44.
First lady was Andrea Green (unattached) in 3:04:23, with Rebecca Mayles (David Lloyd Redway Runners) in second position in 3:08:29 and Sally Baker (unattached) in third in 3:10:42. There were 2045 finishers in total.
The Geoffrey Leaver Corporate Relay Challenge was won by the Network Rail Team A Couple of Peanuts in a time of 3:00:28.
When the main race had departed it was the turn of the Superhero Fun Runners who had turned out in force to run 2.6km and experience the thrill of crossing the finish line as a hero. Popular costumes were Batman and Spiderman, two Star Wars Storm Troopers from the UK Garrison led the runners over the start line of the race, aided by volunteers from Acorn Childcare.
