Commonwealth Games medallist Stephanie Twell recently helped launch this year's Shlurp! Mini Mile races for Brighton Marathon. The youth races are a curtain-raiser for the UK's second biggest marathon. The Shlurp! cow also made a surprise appearance as the event was launched at Blatchington Mill school in front of 300 pupils. 2008 Olympian Twell gave an inspiring speech to the assembled youngsters.
The GB international spoke about how she had started running as a nine-year old and had done her first race soon afterwards. Perseverance was the key factor which had taken her to the heights of becoming world junior champion and the chance to compete at her first Olympic Games as an 18 year old.
"For me, running has always been about enjoyment and challenging myself," declared Twell. Twell will be on the start line on Brighton marathon race day sending the Mini Milers on their way down the final mile of the marathon route.
