The new Vitality WestRun London event scheduled for Sunday 4 October will be a huge occasion for one remarkably courageous woman. Few of us will have been untouched by the tragic boat accident that cost the lives of Nick Milligan and his daughter Emily. That story made headline news in May 2013. As well as the heartbreak of her husband and daughter's death, Victoria Milligan also lost her left leg in the accident.
However showing remarkable resilience and courage Victoria has since made an excellent physical recovery and has started her own charity to help people in circumstances similar to her own. Now wearing a running blade, which has enabled Victoria to get back into health and fitness, she is aiming to run, jog or walk to the finish line at Vitality WestRun London. Victoria will be running to raise funds for Child Bereavement UK.
Local woman Victoria will act as race ambassador for the new 10k which starts on the New Kings Road and finishes on Eel Brook Common, taking a picturesque route (including Stamford Bridge football ground) around the streets of Fulham on fully closed roads. Organisers are planning entertainment and hospitality on the common post-race and are aiming to create a real community vibe around WestRun. There is also a one mile Family Fun Run open to anyone over the age of four.
Organisers Achieve Events UK hope others will be inspired by Victoria’s story and motivated to take part in what is sure to be a great day. Places are limited and are selling fast, so to make sure of a place on the start line, visit the event website for entry details including early bird.
