Runners who also have an interest in two-wheeled exercise, might consider taking part in the Eastbourne Cycling Festival which takes place in the East Sussex town on May 19/20. The weekend includes a 5k fun run along the seafront as well as a duathlon and many cycling events.
The festival is aimed at the competitive cyclist, social cyclists or those seeking a fun day at the picturesque coastal town. The 5k run will take place on Saturday and consists of a fast, flat, two lap course and costs £8 for affiliated runners and £10 for non-affiliated.
The duathlon also takes place on the Saturday and features two 2.5k run legs sandwiching a 18k bike leg. Over a sprint distance, the running element will be largely flat, but the cycle will feature a climb up to the notorious Beachy Head. It is a good opportunity for those wishing to dabble in multi-sport events for the first time ever.
Other events across the weekend include; the Eastbourne Sportive, the mass participation cycle over 80 or 106 miles, criterium road races for youths, experienced competitors and hand-cycling disability competitors and the Alzheimer's Society Charity Mountain Bike Ride.
