No Jog In The Park

action from Jog Shop Jog 20

The Jog Shop Jog takes the award for the most understated race name in the calendar in the south of England this weekend (25/26 March). This long established 20 mile multi-terrain race in the beautiful South Downs National Park from Brighton presents one of the toughest challenges around but it is seen as ideal preparation for a spring marathon.

Jog Shop is an independent running shop, established by marathon international Sam Lambourne in 1986 while JSJ20 has now been running successfully for 25 years. This year's race takes place on the new day and date of Saturday, 25 March.

The no nonsense course has features like Death Valley, The Snake, The North Face and The Big W, so entrants have no excuse if they thought they had entered a fun run! With a switchback mid-section and four main climbs in excess of 600 feet, this is not for the timorous runner.

Other race names that caught the eye of your runABC South reporter are the Delicious Dart Trail and Bolt Around The Holt on Saturday and ZSL London Zoo Stampede 10K on Sunday.

The Delicious Dart Trail styles itself as 'a food fest on the run' and runners are encouraged to sample a wide variety of the finest local produce on the 15-mile Dart riverside trail between Totnes and Dartmouth. Those who choose to fully enter into the spirit will taste more than a dozen local beers, wines, savouries and puddings as well as raising funds for CHICKS, a charity that provides respite breaks for disadvantaged children from all over UK.

The Bolt Round The Holt is a collection of four cross country races in Alice Holt Forest, Farnham, now in its ninth year. There is a 1k kids race; 5k; 10k and 21k options plus a canicross class in all of the races. Funds are raised for GUTS Bowel Cancer charity.

Finally, the London Zoo Stampede on Sunday is billed as 'the wildest 10k and 5k in London' but this tag owes more to the residents you will pass on this 'roar-some' course through ZSL London Zoo. This race will also be held on Sunday, 17 September, 2017.
