Richmond Runfest And Run Reigate Headline

Richmond Runfest medals

Richmond Runfest and Intersport Run Reigate are the headline acts on a busy racing weekend in the south, with more than 50 events in the runABC South race listings produced in association with Sports Tours International.

Richmond Runfest comprises five key events over two days, commencing with the Kew Gardens 10K on Saturday (16 September). runABC South reporter Alan Newman will be running in the first of five waves starting at 8:30am and will be sharing his experiences. Richmond Fitness Expo will be open in Old Deer Park, which is also the venue for the Richmond Kid's Mile series of races in the afternoon. Sunday (17 September) brings the Richmond Marathon and Richmond Half Marathon, with live music at the expo in Old Deer Park, where events conclude with a mass Family Mile.
Intersport Run Reigate packs all its action into Sunday and what a programme there is with the flagship half marathon through some of Surrey's most glorious countryside, supported by a 10k and eight Kid's Mile races. The mile is actually the final 1.1-mile of local children's own half marathon that has been run in mile stages and 1,500 youngsters are expected to compete.
If all this fast and furious running on flat courses is not for you then you could consider Butser Hill Challenge at Horndean or the Isle of Wight Fell Series as the perfect antidote.
Butser Hill Challenge takes place in Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Gravel Hill and features a five-mile fell race classified as 'Grade B, short course'. Suffice to say race organisers promise a demanding run with three ascents and descents of the 888 foot Butser Hill to the highest point on the South Downs.
St Catherine's School, Ventnor is the venue for Isle of Wight Fell Series, also hosting the South of England fell running championships. Three races will be held, hosted by Ryde Harriers, starting with St Boniface Fell (cat A, short) with 235 metres climbing in 3.8km and Ventnor Horseshoe (cat B, medium) with 443 metres ascent over 12km on Saturday. Stiff legs will then be invited to complete the Wroxhall Round (cat C, long) with 487m ascent/21km on Sunday.
Whether you prefer the flat or the fells, runABC hopes you enjoy your running this weekend. All race details are available in runABC South race listings here.
