Wey Ahead In Support Of Mental Health

Wey Ahead banner

Mental health is a growing concern in today’s society, estimated to affect a quarter of people in the UK every year. Running has been shown to have a positive effect on mental wellbeing and now award winning race organisers aat-events have launched Surrey’s largest run/walk event to raise both awareness and funds for local mental health charities.

Wey Ahead is the title of this new event on Saturday 19 May 2018, from Jubilee Square in Woking, featuring the River Wey in a truly spectacular waterside route. Participants can choose between a family orientated 4.5km or more strenuous 25km and 32km courses.

Hundreds will walk or run alongside Basingstoke Canal to Byfleet (4.5km), Guildford (25km) or Godalming (32km) to raise funds for Status Employment, CornerHouse, Hear Us, Oakleaf and Happy Steps charities. The choice to walk or run at this event offers participants of all ages and abilities the freedom to join in and show their support for this fantastic cause.

The 4.5km is an excellent choice for young families and older people, while regular runners will enjoy the challenge of running to Guildford or Godalming. Those who choose to continue from Byfleet will follow the River Wey, past a number of golf courses, to Guildford. Participants finishing here could celebrate over coffee on Guildford’s famous cobbled High Street or enjoy a pub lunch by the river.

The 32km walkers and runners will continue on the Wey towpath behind Shalford Park to St Catherine’s Lock and on to the beautiful Phillips Memorial Park in the heart of Godalming. No matter where participants choose to finish, the event is well connected by train. The start line is a short walk from Woking Station and frequent trains run to Woking from Byfleet, Guildford and Godalming stations.

If you want to get way ahead of the opposition while supporting a coalition of local mental health focussed charities you need to secure your place online and then check-in at the registration desk on the day. Fees are a very reasonable £30 (25km) and £35 (32km).
