After the successful launch of Sport England’s campaign, This Girl Can, which aims to get more women involved in sport for the first time, a new guide has been produced with a specific focus on running.
Devised by Run England and Running Activator Lucy Tomlinson, the Group Leader Toolkit has been designed to show the ways to effectively engage more women in running. Tomlinson, a Run Kent Activator, is a marathon runner and has supported hundreds of group leaders to aid participation in the sport.
This Girl Can is a national campaign by Sport England and a wide range of partnership organisations that has been set up to break down the barriers to allow women to become more involved in sport.
Since launching early this year, participants have been encouraged to record their feats of fitness by tweeting pictures using the #ThisGirlCan hashtag and tagging @ThisGirlCanUK or @englandathletic. More information is available at the This Girl Can website. As part of the campaign, Sport England is also offering courses such as Leadership in Running Fitness to train people in the delivery of activities.
The toolkit is just eight pages long yet is full of useful information; you can download it here.
