Kenya International Marafun
A 21 km (13 mile) course through one of the most beautiful national parks in Kenya - Hell's Gate. Run past zebra, giraffe and antelopes. See buffalo in the distance. Marvel at the plumes of steam rising from deep within the volcanic interior of the earth's crust.
The paths in Hell's Gate National Park are all dirt tracks except for a short tarmac section near the geothermal power station. The route is (virtually) traffic free, but accessible by vehicle in case of emergency.
The start /finish line is at an altitude of 6,400 feet (1,950 metres) above sea level.
The course includes a challenging hill which rises over 1,000 feet (300m) by 5km. From the magnificent Kaparatania view point (stop for photos!) it's downhill and then flat all the way to the finish.
